Generally speaking: All the chemical and natural spot ons are useful and offer protection from ticks and fleas - unfortunately the attraction of some dogs seems to be stronger than any of them. My own dog is such a case.
On bad days, I get to pick about 15-20 ticks a day from ONE dog - I'm guessing it can't be much worse where you live I try to pick as many off of my dogs while we are still outside (they are both mostly black with long and thick hair - so that is quite a challenge ) and then devote some time in the evening to a more thorough search.
You can of course try out the dcVet Abwehrkonzentrat, but this is natural stuff once again and therefore does not kill ticks that decide to feast on your dogs. All it offers is a repellent effect - if there is one... I have found products like this to be lacking if you have a dog that really does attract ticks.
I am sorry to hear about your dog suffering from babesiosis twice. I guess you can call yourself lucky that you still have him around. With regard to the severity of this illness and the accompanying dangers for the liver and kidneys I would no longer recommend the usage of ANY chemical spot on. Still, I understand your need to keep ticks away from your dogs, especially from the one that has already suffered from a so-called tick-borne disease.
I would advice you to cut off the fur of the babesiosis-dog during the active months of ticks, no matter what this might look like. Looks are not important any longer when its health is threatened. The short hair will enable you to detect ticks much faster.
Some people swear that amber-necklaces have done the deed - something about the amber is reported to keep ticks away from dogs.

Some other report that water with gemstones in it has helped to keep ticks away. The "recipe":
tourmaline - schorl
amethyst dark
heliotrope
serpentine
put them into a bowl containing your dog's water, leave them there to rest for 24 hours and then refill your dog's waterbowl with this water.
I don't agree with your vet's ideas of combining spot ons to increase their effect. If they don't work for your dog individually, then all you'll probably get as a result is a double dose of toxins.
And no matter what manufacturers and veterinarians claim to be true about those "harmless" spot ons - if they can kill ticks and fleas weeks and months after the application, if I am forced to wear protection while applying the stuff and keep away from the parts afterwards for hours, then I feel that this cannot be as harmless as claimed - my 2 cents.
On to your next topic - no, there aren't that many raw feeders on this forum, I'd say.
My dogs are on a raw diet and I wouldn't call it very expensive. Unfortunately, my male dog is allergic to most kinds of food, nothing but horse and stag meat agrees with him. So that is kind of expensive, yeah. But if you have dogs without food allergies, then it is possible to buy good meat for a reasonable price - at least in germany. Poultry or beef is what most people feed their dogs.
I don't care much for supplements such as the one that you linked in your last post. As long as enough variation is provided in a dogs menu, supplements should not be necessary. If one decides not to feed bones to dogs, then supplements to provide calcium are of importance. Otherwise natural additions such as a wholesome cooking oil, some honey every now and then, egg yolk, some milk products (but no milk or cream) and stuff like that should suffice along with the daily portion of fresh meat and pureed or cooked vegetables.
The amount of meat required to feed your dogs depends on their respective body weight. If you tell me how much each of your dogs weighs (or should weigh), I can tell you how much meat you should feed them. Sometimes it turns out to be a lot less then one might guess.

Thanks on the answer. Cutting my dog hair wouldn't help because ticks are active whole year here.. And irish setter without hair would look like WTF?!
This amberdog collar are pretty expencive and they don't look really nice
I will think about it all.....
My dogs weight: female 28kg and male 35kg...
In Croatia we don't have lot of choices for 'natural' food, only BARF and he is too expencive for me |

You'd get used to it. And believe me - it does make finding the little beasts a lot easier.
Your female dog would need about 400g meat a day, 500g at the most. You should be able to feed her with 400g if you added a few spoonfuls of cereals and pure animal fat to her meals.
Your male dog would need about 450g meat a day, again 500g at the most - along with cereals and fat.
The amount of meat as well as the feeding of cereals and fat depends on the dogs being healthy with no liver or kidney malfunctions or insufficiencies.
The amount of approx. 1kg of meat a day may turn out to be too expensive in Crotia. In that case, a wholesome alternative is often the feeding of canned meat, or canned dog food that consists of 100% meat. |
